The SoLR Community Committee are pleased to announce that our Midlands community networking event will be at Purecraft Bar & Kitchen on Thursday 24 March from 5:30 pm. Thanks to Carter Jonas who will be sponsoring the bar and snacks along with SoLR. This is a free event open to all SoLR members, so hope to see you there (please RSVP). Also, a big welcome to Issie Goodwin who has joined Josh, Alex and Ben on the Community Committee.
We would still really appreciate your feed-back on our proposed plans for 2022. The survey is still open and a £25 Amazon voucher (or alternative if you'd prefer) is up for grabs
We held our route to chartered geographer webinar in partnership with the RGS on We 9 of March. Thanks very much to Liz Fox-Tucker and James Kendall form the RGS. A reminder that you can download an Excel CPD template under 'My CPD' in your SoLR account.
A recording of the webinar is now available in the 'Resources' area of your SoLR account.
Our first member blog...
SoLR member Dr. Thanasis Skentos has published an article titled 'Land Referencing; Are we still Geographers?' which takes a closer look at our identity.
Thanks Thanasis for sharing this. It would be great to see more articles like so please get in touch if you have something to share.
It would also be great to see some conversation on the topics presented - there is a comment section at the end.
Apprenticeship progress
We have apprenticeship vacancies open across 3 organizations, 1 more has already closed and 3 more are planning to release over the next month or so. These are amazing opportunities to start a rewarding career, so if you have the opportunity to promote these, please do.
Huge thanks to colleagues at NCATI for showcasing the Land Referencer Apprenticeship at The NEC What Career? What University? event on Friday and Saturday (4/5 mar), with lot's of interest shown from potential apprentices as well as post-grads planning their move into industry. We will also be represented at the Walsall Works Expo on Thursday 24 March.
